Once a week, invite 4-5 students to eat lunch in the classroom and talk about books. Not a structured discussion — just conversation. What are you reading? What's good? What should I try? Rotate which students are invited so everyone gets a turn.

This creates a social context for reading that mirrors what adult book lovers do naturally — they talk about books with their friends. For many kids, school is the first place they discover that talking about books is a social activity, not just an academic one.
