Horus's Horrible Day follows Horus, an extraterrestrial student, as he navigates the overwhelming and often disappointing realities of his first day in first grade. Expecting the comforts of his previous 'Martiangarten,' Horus is dismayed to find no slime tables, nap mats, or snacks, and even gets placed in the 'Beta' reading group. This early chapter book humorously and gently explores themes of adjusting to change, managing expectations, and finding self-acceptance when things don't go as planned. It's a wonderful read-aloud for children transitioning to a new school year or feeling different from their peers.
Although she is smart, Tera must learn the importance of working together on a group project.
