In the fifth installment of the Artemis Fowl series, teenage anti-hero Artemis Fowl finds himself entangled in a high-stakes mission to prevent an ancient demon race, trapped in a time-suspended island called Hybras, from returning to Earth for revenge. He partners with his loyal bodyguard Butler and fairy Captain Holly Short, alongside other familiar faces like Mulch Diggums and Foaly. The story is a thrilling blend of fantasy and science fiction, featuring time travel, advanced technology, and complex moral dilemmas. It explores themes of prejudice, the consequences of war, and the importance of teamwork, all wrapped in Eoin Colfer's signature fast-paced, humorous style. Parents should note the moderate action and peril, but the overall tone is adventurous and empowering, suitable for readers aged 10-14.
Ten thousand years ago, humans and fairies fought a great battle for the magical island of Ireland. When it became clear to the fairy families that they could never win, they decided to move their civilization underground and keep themselves hidden from the humans. All the fairy families agreed on this, except the 8th family, the demons. The demons planned to lift their small island out of time until they had regrouped and were ready to wage war on the humans once more. However the time spell went wrong, and the island of Hybras was catapulted into Limbo, where it has remained for ten thousand years.
